Heritage Open Days Guided Walks

17th September 2022 — 18th September 2022

To celebrate Heritage Open Days this September we are holding two guided walks in beautiful Daventry; one of Borough Hill and one of the Town Centre. Booking is essential, please see below for details on how to book on to each walk.

Guided Walk of Borough Hill

Saturday 17th September, 2pm to 3.30pm

Join Museum Volunteer Mike Arnold for a guided walk of Borough Hill, Daventry, best known for the Iron Age hill fort, Roman remains and BBC Transmitting Station.

Take a trip back through the ages of Borough Hill including the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron ages occupation, the Romans, and the part that the landscape played in the English Civil War some 376 years ago. The walk also includes fascinating facts about the Hill’s role for the BBC radio transmitter station, its role in the town water supply as well as many other aspects of the hill through the ages.

Discover the history now hidden under the beautiful nature of this British Heritage protected site.

Access

The site is mostly rough grass tracks, some areas are inaccessible to wheelchairs or need the ability to walk over steep slopes and very uneven ground. These areas can however be bypassed on the rough tracks. An off-road wheelchair would be capable of accessing the full walk and pushchairs capable of being used on rough grassland will be able to access the walk.
