Saturday Opening – 4th February 2017

The museum’s gruesome new Law & Order exhibition tells the story of how order was kept and of past crime and punishment in Daventry and the surrounding area.  Visitors will be able to learn about Policing in Daventry and discover the murky past of Northamptonshire’s criminals such as the Culworth Gang.  Exhibits feature fascinating artefacts including a Police Motorbike, handcuffs and truncheons, a cell door and a pillory – a humiliating and physically uncomfortable punishment inflicted on those who committed minor offences.

Children can get involved in the exhibition by taking part in a ‘whodunit’ activity called ‘The Missing Mayor Mystery’ by searching for clues around the museum and solving the mystery.   There will also be a chance to dress up in the Mayor’s robes and learn about past and present roles of the Town Council and the basic principles of democracy.

Join us in the museum from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday 4th February and explore the museum for free!
