The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lynne Taylor and volunteers from Daventry Museum joined Longlands Specialist Care Centre on Friday 11th November to help commemorate Armistice Day through a Remembrance Day Party for residents.
During the day residents made their own poppy badges and shared their memories of wartime.
Whilst listening to music from the wartime period, residents enjoyed a VE Day celebratory meal along the hallway of Longlands Specialist Care Centre. After lunch residents were invited to handle artefacts and look at historic photos from Daventry Museum. Items of nostalgia included a ration book, medals, milk bottle tops, Bakelite telephone, and box brownie camera.
A local resident of Daventry, Helen Frost, dressed in Land Army uniform much to the delight of one particular resident who herself was in the Land Army and reminisced about her time as a Land Girl.
