Ceremonial Mace

Ceremonial mace of Daventry Town Corportation given by Bailiff Watters in 1681. The mace features an ornate crown and the Dane and a tree, the emblem of Daventry. The emblem is repeated on the base and around the main head are symbols of the four nations of Great Britain, for example the harp (Ireland) the thistle (Scotland), the rose (England). The mace is carried in front of the Mayor by the 'Macebearer'.
