Clay pipe stem stamped NORTHAMPTON
A clay pipe stem which unlike others in the collection has the word NORTHAMPTON stamped upon it. It is likely that this pipe was made between 1855 and 1920. A similar stamp mark can be seen on pipe's made by A Roberts of Northampton. Most of the pipes made by this producer would have been short stemmed and many of the pipe bowls were decorative, although those found with this stem were plain and in poor repair.
