Available to view online from September 2020

Share your collection be part of the virtual exhibition by emailing the museum

Do you have a plethora of pottery, a whimsical animal collection, an assortment of fascinating fossils, or a ten-piece teapot collection? Maybe you have a hodgepodge of ceramic hedgehogs or a tantalising variety of old toys?  Would you like to share your love of them and be part of a new exhibition to virtual visitors to Daventry Museum? Well now you can!

Our Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities exhibition will be an online and physical exhibition that we will share via our website in a 360 degree tour, social media, and we hope museum visits in the not too distant future! We’d love you to get involved, so do tell us about your collections, you’ll be able to tell everyone just why the collection is so special to you, what made you start the collection and where you usually display it. Just fill in the simple application form below.  The collection photographs sent to us will form the Virtual Cabinet of Curiosities, displayed via a short film available online.

Whilst you will help us to curate the virtual exhibition we will be delving into the museum’s wonderful store to put not often seen items on display in our museum cabinets. Chosen and researched by our team of volunteers (still busy ‘working from home’) this element, The Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities will be a display of paintings, Daventry inspired crockery and ephemera, archaeology, costume and much more. The museum display will be captured as a new 360 degree tour that will then be available to view ‘in the flesh’ once the museum reopens.

We’ll also be delving into the history of collecting and the history of our own ‘cabinet’ namely 3 New Street Daventry. We’ll look into why collecting it is a behaviour almost solely displayed by humans and how museums will now be displaying and sharing their exhibitions for the future.

To be a part of this exciting exhibition please complete the application form (below). The application deadline is Friday 31st July.
