Capability Brown Textile Exhibition

During Daventry Arts Festival (Saturday 18th June to Sunday 26th June), the museum was lucky enough to have the East Midlands Region Embroiderers’ Guild display their wonderful textile exhibition, inspired by Capability Brown and marking the 300th anniversary of his birth.   Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown was a designer who changed the national landscape and created a style which has shaped people’s picture of the quintessential English countryside.

The Embroiderers’ Guild is Capability Brown Festival Partner and is contributing to the celebrations with a series of unique textile exhibitions at venues across the country throughout 2016. Using the landscape and gardens as their inspiration, members have interpreted these using fabric and thread to create unique pieces of work.

Here’s a selection of the fabulous work from The East Midlands Region Embroiderers’ Guild.
