Memories of World War 2
Come and join us for the opening of our new exhibition on 5th September which commemorates the end of World War 2. On display we will have artefacts that evoke memories from the period including household objects such as glass jelly bowls and brawn presses, as well as artefacts illustrating The Home Guard and the Women’s Land Army. The exhibition will tell the lives of local people and their experiences of evacuation, of rationing and of the conflict whilst fighting in The British Armed Forces.
On the Saturday we will have special guests Gerry Thompson who has researched all the names and histories of the men on the War Memorial in Daventry; Roger Money will be here with his collection of military (deactivated) guns for you to have a closer look at; and last but not least, we have the pleasure of listening to Rob Jennens who will be playing wartime songs on the Reginald Foort Piano from 10.30am.
So don’t miss out and come along to the opening from 10am to 4pm and share your memories with us.
Please note, the main Museum Exhibition Room will be closed on Friday 4th September in preparation for the new exhibition.
