Daventry Museum will be open this Saturday 2nd December from 10am to 4pm with a timeline themed exhibition, Daventry Through the Ages. The exhibition shows the development of Daventry and significant points in time that have contributed to the town’s heritage.Historic Borough Hill plays an important part in Daventry’s early history by being the site of first settlers in the Stone Age followed by Bronze Age barrows, or round mounds, and an Iron Age hill fort. The site was also home to a Roman villa. New exhibits of fossils, Neolithic flint axes, Bronze Age axes and Roman pottery reflect this early period. Other highlights include the medieval period, the coaching era, the age of radio and the town expansion.Visitors will be able to learn more about Daventry’s past by taking part in a Daventry Through the Ages quiz and there will be some Christmas themed colouring in, why not make your own Christmas card? The museum will close for the Christmas period at 1.30pm on Friday 15th December and will re open in the new year on Saturday 13th January 2018 from 10am to 4pm with the new Sport & Leisure exhibition. For further information please contact the museum on 01327 301246.
Although it has been a month since Remembrance Sunday, the museum is still remembering the fallen in our World War One Centenary exhibition, which is open until 14th December 2018, Tues-Fri from 9.30am to 1.30pm. We want to again, thank everyone involved in the Empty Chair Project. We are overwhelmed by the response from the Daventry Community, and are pleased the project has inspired others to remember..
